Watch Butterfly and Flowers

This Thai drama film debuted in theaters in 1985. It is based on a book written by author Makut Oradee. The movie is set and was actually filmed in Southern Thailand, where a sizable Muslim population exists, in the predominantly Buddhist country. The film follows the life of a Muslim boy, who leaves school and is faced with the harsh realities of the situation in his rural town. Prospects are scarce and he is forced into smuggling in nearby Malaysia in order to earn a living for himself and help his family. Along the way a romance, that shatters cultural and religious lines develops.
