City After Midnight is a 1957 French suspense film set on a quiet street in the small town of La Bandelette. This who-done-it movie opens with a murder scene and the unfortunate man, Sir Maurice Lawes, who sees the crime. The very next day Sir Lawes meets his untimely death as well. With many possible scenarios, the chief police inspector and a private investigator must search to find the killer. Was it a robbery gone bad? Could it be Sir Lawes' own son Toby, or the woman with a bloodstained nightdress? Who could possibly murder this kind man in such a violent manner?
