This Hungarian drama film was directed by Michael Powell and adapted from the famous Hungarian opera Bluebeard's Castle. Where the opera was melodramatic and colorful, the film is toned back and minimalistic and contains only two characters, Bluebeard and his newest wife Judith. As with the original opera, the film is also a musical with all the primary dialogue being sung by the two leads, rather than spoken. The story follows the life of the dangerous psychopath and wife killer of legend, Bluebeard who takes his newest wife Judith into his grand family castle. He tells her not to wander but Judith does anyways and the more she discovers in the castle, the more terrified she becomes.
