In the Region of Ice is a 1976 American short film based on the short story. It tells the tale of a sharp tongued nun and an emotionally disturbed young boy that does not speak. The nun attempts to break through to the boy and draw him out. He in turn will show her to be the compassionate person that is hiding behind her brusque exterior.
