In the People's Republic of China 1980, Min was selected for an internship of a month and a half in a famous botanist "quoiqu'autoritaire." He lives on an island, where he works a huge garden with his daughter, An, occasionally visited by his son Dan, and became a soldier stationed in Tibet. Gradually, An and Min approach, becoming lovers. Pressed by Mr. Chen to marry his son, Min finally accepted: the two women vowed never to be separated. But from the honeymoon, Dan discovers that his wife is not a virgin and so explodes a roller-coaster of dramas and emotions.
