This fairytale with a twist features fairies and vampires pirouetting to Tchaikovsky's allegros as Matthew Bourne transports us through Edwardian England to deliver a gothic romance. After Aurora falls into an enchanted sleep for 100 years, her one true love realizes he must seek immortality if he's to continue their courtship. Ashley Shaw shines as Aurora, exuding youthful energy and palpable chemistry with the dashing gardener Leo (Andrew Monaghan). Blocking their path to happiness is the sinister Caradoc (Paris Fitzpatrick), who delivers a wonderfully creepy performance. Bourne's masterful plot twists and sharp wit captivate and delight, with an oversized puppet baby providing the film's biggest laughs.
