This is a dramatic movie about a woman who runs an antique furniture store. Helene lives on the sea coast in France. She runs her own shop in the small town. Her nephew, recently back from being in the service in Algiers, comes to live with her. As he settles in, an old flame of Helene's arrives. He has also been in Algiers, running a small cafe.

This is a story about the past of Helene and Alphonse, Helene's old flame. They share their memories of their times together. There are regrets and opportunities both of them missed with each other.
