When Doris McCloud (Joan Barclay) takes up a job as a stenographer she does not realize that the man she is working for is not the noted mystery writer Steven Norris, but a wanted criminal Dan Geary who bears a striking resemblance to Norris. While the original Norris languishes in captivity, Dan Geary is free to walk - even into the Police Inspector's office. Dan Geary's attempts at writing mystery stories, the discovery of stolen diamonds in his room by Doris and finger prints lifted from a glass by the RCMP sergeant Jim McGregor bring about his downfall.
