When acclaimed documentarian Ross McElwee becomes a father, he finds himself at home watching a lot more TV. After becoming obsessed with the nightly tales of calamity on by the local news, McElwee's trademark anxiety begins to resurface, so he sets off on a journey to interview former TV news subjects - including victims of violence, disasters and other tragedies. Can McElwee protect his son from unknown catastrophes? Or will he learn how to accept the hand life may deal him?
