This foreign film won The Golden Globe for its amazing and painful look into an inmates struggles in the well known concentration camp known as Auschwitz. The character of Saul brings us on his 24 hour journey through his life at this horrible camp. He is part of a unit that is forced to help their captors with the executions of their own people. The look in Saul's eyes is one of a man that has seen too much.
As he works in the gas chambers taking out the dead, a young boy's body finds him believing it is his son. This anguish in him to find his son a proper burial is mixed with the whisperings and fear of the men trying to fight back against their captors.
