THE CHOREOGRAPHER is a one-hour program about Lisa deRibère, whose career began at the age of sixteen when she won a scholarship to study at the American School of Ballet in NYC, went on to dance for nine years with Balanchine, then another six years with Baryshnikov (at ABT). In the years that followed, she became a prolific choreographer, with over eighty ballets to her credit. In the winter of 2010, deRibère taught a class at Barnard college in New York, taking eleven dancers through a grueling three months of choreography, aiming for two performances at the Miller Theatre in New York. The result: a lovely fifteen-minute performance to the last two minutes of Schubert's Trout Quintet. Christopher Lukas, a 50-year veteran of public broadcasting, edited 15 hours of material into this documentary, starting at day one, and continuing through to the final performance.
The Choreographer is a 2011 documentary with a runtime of 55 minutes.
