The Proposition is a period piece, set in about 1935. It follows a priest who travels from the UK to Boston. He avoids a prominent couple in the church who want to have a child, supposedly because he is sterile. The couple hire a student from Harvard to impregnate the wife--but the student ends up falling in love with her.
