E's Otherwise is an anime series which aired in 2003. The show is set in a futuristic world where psychics with special abilities roam free. The main character of the anime is Kai Kudou, a young man with psychic abilities who works for the government agency, ASHURUM.

At a young age, Kai's twin sister, Shiela, was taken by ASHURUM to train her psychic abilities. Kai, feeling responsible for not being able to protect her, decides to join ASHURUM himself as a means of finding his sister. Kai's abilities allow him to manipulate sound waves and create devastating attacks.

The show follows Kai and his team at ASHURUM, as they complete various missions and uncover the truth about the organization. Alongside Kai are other psychics, including Yuuki Tokugawa, a young girl with the power of teleportation, and Shen-Long, a mysterious psychic who can manipulate water.

The villains of E's Otherwise are the Dragoons, a group of psychics who are fighting against ASHURUM. Their leader, Asuka Tokugawa, is Yuuki's older sister who was captured and experimented on by ASHURUM, leading to her desire for revenge. Asuka and the Dragoons are not only powerful psychics, but they also have access to advanced technology and military weaponry, making them a formidable threat.

Throughout the show, the characters encounter different psychics with unique abilities, including those who can control gravity, manipulate plants, and even bring lifeless objects to life as puppets. As the story progresses, the characters begin to question the morality of ASHURUM and their actions, leading to internal conflict within the group.

Alongside the action and psychic battles, there are also moments of introspection and character development. Kai constantly struggles with guilt over his sister's disappearance and the violence he must cause in battle. Yuuki learns to harness her teleportation abilities and becomes a valuable member of the team. Shen-Long's past is revealed, and his connection to ASHURUM is brought to light.

The animation of E's Otherwise is colorful and vibrant, capturing the futuristic setting of the show. The characters are well-designed, with distinct personalities and appearances. 23. Far Away Dawn

The Guerrillas attack Ashurum. When Kai arrives, he does battle with Kyou, and manages to defeat him, but almost loses control in the process. Meanwhile, Hikaru's connection to her brother takes a turn for the worst when she tries to reach out to him and is quelled by Dr. Chigaya. Elsewhere, Ashurum begins to move into Gald to rebuild buildings according to Eiji's plan!

22. Rhapsody

August 26, 2003

Back at Ashurum, Sherry hands Eiji the book they took from Yuuki. Kai and the group get back to the house, which has been left in ruins. They start working on cleaning it up, but before they can progress too far, Maria comes and attacks Kai. Shen-long heads to Shin-lu's room, and is happy to find that she's back from the lab, though it quickly turns to sorrow when he discovers that she's changed yet again.

21. Frozen Flame

August 19, 2003

As Sherry continues her attack, Balk sends Maria further underground, saying that she must protect Asuka at all costs. Meanwhile, the girls continue on to where Erimiya is, Maria is distraught by the whole situation. Further away, Kai and Leonid continue their trek when something happens that cause Kai's powers to go haywire.

20. Desire and Destiny

August 12, 2003

Yuuki and the girls wander about, and eventually head for Rikumi's ship, in order to use the ocean route to get where they're going. They arrive at the docks, and discover that Rikumi has two other passengers. Kai heads to the church to ask Giberini for a way to get to the guerillas - base. Their discussion is interrupted by one of the church's guards, who tell the Cardinal that an intruder has been caught. They go to where he's being held, and Kai is shocked to find out that it's Leonid.

19. Drift In The Current

August 5, 2003

Kai asks Shen-long to hold off on taking Shin-lu back to Ashurum until they know why she's acting so strangely. Back at his house, Yuuki wakes up to find Maria waiting by his bed. Yuuki and the group head for the guerillas - base, but Maria takes them on a detour to apologize to him for what happened earlier, and to tell him that Asuka is a psychic.

18. Same Bed, Different Dreams

July 29, 2003

Kai makes Cardinal Giberini promise to leave the children alone, in exchange for Kai finding the Sacrament for him. Shin-lu finds Kai and tries to convince him to return to Ashurum. Kyou continues to attack Kai, and Shin-lu tells him to back off. The fight continues and Kyou comments that Kai isn't all that he's made out to be. Shin-lu tells him that she'll be the one to take Kai down, adding that she wants Kai to see how strong she's become.

17. Exodus to Light

July 22, 2003

Kai, free of the rubble, sits and ponders some of the things that have been said to him recently. Back at the church, the children greet Kai when he returns. He tells them that he was outside but before he can explain that it isn't frightening outside, another "attack" occurs, and the children run off to stop the assault. Kai joins the fray in order to protect the children, and Giberini has his men use a psychic jammer to stop Kai. He manages to fight through it and open an escape route for them all.

16. Similar calibers

July 15, 2003

Kai heads back to the church and listens on Giberini discussing the weapons tests with some underlings. He leaves and is confronted by Giberini who spouts off some facts about him and then invites him to become one of his followers. He continues, explaining that if uses his power for the Church, they will be able to find the Sacrament of Calvaria. Kai refuses, and Giberini gives him one last chance, offering to let the children go if he helps him.

15. Denizens of Paradise

July 8, 2003

Cardinal Giberini is sitting in his office, discussing some kind of tests with some unknown gentlemen when one of his underlings reports that there is an intruder in the church. Somewhere in the church, Kai meets up with Raphael and the other children and he asks where they are, and just before the children head off to "protect their home", Raphael explains that it's "paradise".

14. A lonely shooting star

Shen-long and Shin-lu head out for more testing. Yuuki asks Kai bout psychics and if they can ID each other. During a checkup with Dr. Asakura, Kai's PSI levels spike and he ends up disappearing.

While Yuuki is out taking care of some errands, Asuka and Kai end up taking a job to find a lost cat. Elsewhere, Yuuki meets up with Maria. He thinks it's to discuss the Sacrament, but Maria asks about the psychic that's staying with him.

12. Blind spot

June 17, 2003

Plans are finalized, and Kai goes to be Dzhyuma's guinea pig. The next morning, Dzhyuma and Asuka prepare for their date, Yuuki and Kai trail them and watch out for the men who are targeting Dzhyuma. After some discussion about the situation, Kai and Yuuki are confronted by two psychics who are also apparently after Dzhyuma.

11. Sweet gloom

June 10, 2003

Asuka is shopping, and hears rumors that Yuuki is planning on leaving town to be a street performer. After reassuring her that he's not, he and Kai discuss a potential client, who has requested an escort for his time in Gald. Yuuki refuses, but Kai decides to accept, and heads off to meet Dzhyuma.

10. Rewritten memory

June 3, 2003

Back in Gald, Kai and Yuuki return from a job, where they had to deliver flower bulbs for Christmas. Shen-Lon discovers that Shin-Lu is no longer at the hospital, and rushes over to the lab to find her. After a bit of back and forth, Kyou shows up, and starts a fight with Shen-Lon that ends up being broken up by Maxim. Maxim ends up draining Shen-Lon of his powers temporarily, and when Shin-Lu visits him to see how he's doing, she displays habits that she hadn't had before.

9. Charmed soul

May 27, 2003

Leonid comes to Yuuki with a job offer - help find the "woman" that he was with at the casino. Yuuki reveals that it was actually Kai, and after some deliberation, Kai ends up being dubbed "Josephione". Back in the dress, Kai goes on a date with Edgar Hanson, a local arms dealer with a heart of gold.

8. Rise and fall of Tokugawa

May 20, 2003

Taking a day off from work, Kai, Yuuki, and Asuka end up going out to eat at a ramen place in town. After finally getting in and trying the ramen, Yuuki declares that it's not all that good, and that he will make even better ramen. After some trials, Yuuki and company open up a stand just outside the other ramen place thus proving that that his ramen is indeed better.

7. Purple destiny

May 13, 2003

Kai and Yuuki head to the library, where a rare first printing of the "Purple Mask" comic is being kept. The librarian asks them to safeguard the comic from a man calling himself the "Purple Mask", who has announced that he will be stealing it that very day. After a bit of deliberation, and the appearance of the detective, Leonid, the Purple Mask appears, using psychic powers to stay one step ahead of our heroes.

6. Experimental city

Kai and Yuuki head out on an assignment. They meet with the client who wants them to find a certain person, and then relay that person's location to him. Thinking that they have an easy job, they go looking, but when they find him, they discover that he's a "branded".

5. Magnificent approach

April 29, 2003

Having trusted Maxim, Maria and the others are in battle with the spy, and the battle ends when Maxim uses his powers on the spy. Kai awakens to an unfamiliar room, and finds Asuka in the kitchen. Back at the house, Kai finds a note telling him to met Yuuki downstairs.

4. On the Drifted Ground

April 22, 2003

Asuka is at the beach, talking to her animal friends when they tell her about a man that's washed up on the shore. She finds Kai, and in trying to take him someplace safe, feels the nightmare he's having. Kai awakens to find Yuuki and Dr. Asakura sitting near him. Yuuki questions Kai about why he was in Gald.

3. The Arrow Freed

April 15, 2003

With the bombing ended, Kai convinces a reluctant Ruri to let him search the town for any stragglers. He finds a little girl in the basement of a burning house, and brings her outside to safety. As he goes to get some water, the girl's mother returns with a group of people, and they fire on Ruri, thinking she's going to take the girl away.

2. We Are Not For Destruction

Yuuki is walking along when he is accosted by a man, and before he can resolve the situation, he's knocked unconscious. Meanwhile, Kai and the others at AESES are in the middle of training when Eiji tells them they have marching orders. Their mission is to go to Gald and sweep the area of guerillas.

In a lab in Ashurum, Kai Kudou awakens in a medical machine of some sort. Shortly after, he is escorted by Eiji Sagimiya to the AESES building, where he is to train as an AESES agent.
