Jeremiah is a post-apocalyptic television drama series that first premiered on the 3rd of March, 2002, on Showtime starring Luke Perry, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Sean Astin, Peter Stebbings, Ingrid Kavelaars, Byron Lawson, and Kim Hawthorne. The series revolves around a world where a mysterious virus has wiped out everyone over the age of thirteen, leaving the world in the hands of children and adolescents. The show is set in the year 2021, and humanity has been pushed back to a pre-industrial age.
The show follows the character Jeremiah, played by Luke Perry, who is one of the survivors of the virus. He has grown up in a world where he knows nothing of the previous era and must now navigate through a world of violence, mysterious factions, and new leadership ideologies. Jeremiah is a strong-willed and determined character who is on a mission to rebuild the world, to bring back law and order, and to find out what really caused the virus that wiped out most of humanity.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner plays the role of Kurdy, a wandering friend of Jeremiah, who is his most trusted ally in the post-apocalyptic world. Kurdy is a skilled fighter, but his strongest asset is his cunning wit, which he uses to get himself and Jeremiah out of tight spaces. Sean Astin plays the character of Mr. Smith, a man who runs a self-sufficient farm with his wife, Erin, played by Kimberly Hawthorne. Their farm is one of the few sanctuaries left in the world and is a hub for the local trade.
As the show progresses, we are introduced to more characters, including Markus, a political faction leader played by Peter Stebbings, who has ambitions of ruling over the world, and who Julius, played by Byron Lawson, a member of Markus' faction who is fiercely loyal to him. Ingrid Kavelaars plays the role of Erin, Mr. Smith's wife, who is also a skilled doctor and is instrumental in helping Jeremiah
