Ranma 1/2 is a Japanese anime television series, which first aired on Fuji TV in 1989. It is based on a manga series of the same name, created by Rumiko Takahashi. The show follows the story of Ranma Saotome, a young martial artist who is cursed to turn into a girl whenever he gets splashed with cold water, and back into a boy when he gets splashed with hot water. The curse was placed upon him during a training exercise in China, and it has caused him much embarrassment and trouble ever since.
Ranma returns to Japan with his father, Genma, to fulfill a pledge made between their families and his marriage to one of the daughters of Soun Tendo, an old friend of Genma's. However, they soon learn that Soun has only daughters, and their eldest daughter Akane, a skilled martial artist herself, is the only one left unmarried. Thus, the two are forced into an arranged engagement, much to Akane's annoyance.
The show follows Ranma and Akane's relationship as they navigate their engagement, work to undo Ranma
