The 30th class of the G.E.O. selection course comes to an end. When they entered they were only a number, they were stripped of their name, of their personality. One year later they are different people, they have spent all these months away from their homes, far from their loved ones, devoted to the G.E.O. The 30 seconds it takes them to put on a simple beret is full of meaning, it is one of the happiest moments of their lives. They have achieved their dream, they have overcome the challenge, but it is only the beginning of a hard life full of sacrifices for them and their families. In 2016, jihadist terrorist attacks were carried out throughout Europe, claiming hundreds of civilian victims: the attack on the Bataclan nightclub in Paris, the attacks in Nice, a suicide attack at the Istanbul airport and the stabbings in London in 2017. The fight against terrorism is one of the cornerstones of the existence of technical units in police forces around the world. These are real situations in which there is no plan B and the practice and preparation of simulations can make the difference between life and death. Training has moved from a technical background to specialization: tactical assaults on aircraft, offshore boardings, their first parachute jump. They are overcoming trials they could never have imagined, and each small triumph is, for the G.E.O. candidates, justification for all the pain, sacrifice and suffering they are going through.
6. Under Pressure

After 20 weeks, the pressure is still mounting. Obedience is important, but so is learning to be a leader. A leadership earned through respect, not fear, a socially recognized authority. The candidates who remain on the course are the convinced ones, they start to see their colleagues as family, they start to feel comfortable with the demands of the course. Departures hurt more and more. They have formed lifelong friendships, but the course continues and a single moment of doubt or lack of concentration can trigger a decisive mistake. Practical exercises in real-life situations are a further step in their training, such as defence at embassies. The G.E.O. is in charge of security at high-risk embassies, such as the one in Kabul. The level of demand never decreases.

The training continues in Trillo. The Tagus continues its relentless selection as the instructors try to get to the core of the trainees, to discover their weaknesses, their strengths, to confront them with their physical and psychological barriers. Nothing in their previous life has prepared them mentally to deal with uncertainty, fear of the unknown, unawareness of what comes next, or when. The ability to improvise and adapt will be a key requirement to become members of the unit. Hunger, sleep, cold, physical demands... the challenges are endless and will test the individual limits and survival capacity of the trainees.
1. The First 24 Hours

The Special Group of Operations (G.E.O.) was created in 1978. Very few officers gain access to the elite corps of the Spanish National Police that fights terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crime. They are the last resort of the State. 100 police officers have passed the pre-entry tests for the G.E.O. course. It is one of the most demanding training courses in the world. Perhaps none of them will become a G.E.O. agent. The demand on them will be 500% throughout the rigorous physical, psychological and tactical training in which a team of instructors is responsible for selecting those who will finally become agents. In this first episode, the coexistence phase begins at the G.E.O. training camp in Trillo (Guadalajara), where the candidates will experience a frenetic and demoralizing first 24 hours.
