Talia in the Kitchen is a teen sitcom which first premiered on Nickelodeon in July 2015. The show was created by Mariela Romero and produced by Nickelodeon Latin America. The program was set in Miami, Florida and followed a young girl named Talia Parra (played by Maria Quezada) on her culinary adventures. Talia is a confident, daring and adventurous Latina teen who discovers her talent as a chef after discovering a magic spice.
The storyline of the show revolves around Talia's family-owned restaurant, Lola's Kitchen, which is struggling to stay afloat. This is where Talia's magical spice comes in handy, and she gains the ability to make amazing dishes that lure in more customers. Of course, she has to keep this power a secret from her family and try to cook up solutions to keep the business alive.
The show depicts the various challenges Talia faces as she tries to balance school with her newfound culinary skills, and her family's struggles in running and promoting their restaurant. Talia also encounters various hurdles and obstacles, including rival chefs who try to steal her magic ingredient, and challenging customers who aren't easy to please.
Talia's unique talent and entrepreneurial spirit caught the attention of Chef Julio (Joshua Hoffman), who took Talia under his tutelage and helped hone her skills as a chef. Julio becomes a mentor and guide to Talia, assisting her with cooking techniques and teaching her about the business of running a restaurant. Along with Talia's best friend, Rudy (Galilea La Salvia), the three of them go on many adventures in and out of the kitchen, from competing in cooking competitions to trying to find new ingredients for their recipes.
